Sunday Times review:
All Times Through Paradise (EMI)
That the Saints were ever thought of as a punk group was an accident of timing. They had been sitting at home in Brisbane listening to the Stooges for years, but just happened to release their first records when buzzsaw guitars had become fashionable on the other side of the world. This magnificent four-CD box set contains everything recorded by the Saints between 1976 and 1978: their first three studio albums (I’m Stranded, Eternally Yours , Prehistoric Sounds), B-sides and a live set recorded at the Hope & Anchor pub in North London in 1977.
The Saints’ continuing influence is due to the fact that they possessed a much broader sound than was usually found among the ranks of the safety-pinned and ragged-trousered. The guitarist Ed Kuepper was a virtuoso by any standard, let alone the none-too-stringent criteria of punk, while the group as a whole drew from influences reaching back to rock’n’roll and R&B (the Saints were also pioneers of the idea of trashing the standards Times Through Paradise contains spirited covers of Lipstick on Your Collar, River Deep Mountain High and Kissin’ Cousins). Chris Bailey, meanwhile, was also much more listenable than any of his alleged peers, unloading the Saints’ songs in a voice equal parts drawl and sneer.
The Saints were the finest group of their era, and every home should have a copy of this collection.

December 2003
Throughout December Chris was in Australia.
He performed with Nick & the Bad Seeds on the Oz leg of their Nocturama tour.
He also played some solo shows & was involved in a bit of slutting around in the writing department.
The band had earlier joined The Bad Seeds on their European & US tours.

Chris appears on the new Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds single
" Bring it On ". The song will be the first single from their new album.
" Nocturama "
The following are excerpts from the press release. Click Here for long version of the Press Release.
" He ( Bailey ) was on tour in Melbourne at the time and I called him up and he came and sang on 'Bring it On' - and he sang it beautifully. He lifted that song," says Cave. " " He's a wonderful singer ". " The Saints were Godlike to me and my colleagues. It was extraordinary to go and see a band that were so anarchic and violent, with a singer that could actually sing ".
"Nocturama" spans emotional surrender to venomous black humour and engages in a wide range of themes. There is a tender sunset song of hope; an elegant piano song of longing; a yawing, dark violin waltz; a swaggering pledge of love; a raucous abominable tale; a sorrowful evocation of loss; a nostalgic meditation; a fragrant love epiphany; and one final, lustful demonic epic.
Some of the loveliest, most compelling songs are the gentle ones like the opening 'Wonderful Life', or the simple rendering of nostalgia in 'There Is A Town'. Forthcoming single 'Bring It On' sees the band hitting a bold, superfly noir groove and features an outstanding duetted vocal from Chris Bailey, the singer with Brisbane's glorious pre-punk nihilists The Saints. 'Dead Man in My Bed' further raises noise levels as Cave takes the perspective of a woman afflicted with a useless partner. The album's most spectacular song is saved until the end when The Bad Seeds unleash the flaming, fifteen minute epic, 'Babe, I'm On Fire'."Nocturama" might well be the complete Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds panorama.
The Saints will soon begin work on the new album. It should see the light of day in the new year....Still no confirmed release date for Bailey's solo CD.
Eddie Nystrom's latest CD " Leap of Faith " is now available. It is highly recommended.
